Nationals take Rutledge at No. 17 overall
WASHINGTON -- Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo is, at heart, a scout. That’s a major reason why he considers the MLB Draft one of the most important days of the year for his franchise.
On Monday, the Nationals selected right-hander Jackson Rutledge, from San Jacinto (Texas) Junior College, with the 17th overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. Drafting a pitcher in the first round is becoming an annual tradition for the Nationals, who have selected a hurler with six of their past seven first-round selections, dating back to 2012.

Rutledge named Golden Spikes Semifinalist
DURHAM, N.C. – USA Baseball named the 25 semifinalists for its Golden Spikes Award on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Among the semifinalists are San Jacinto College sophomore pitcher Jackson Rutledge.
Presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 42nd Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced on June 14 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

Salazar shuts down Summit to lead Kirkwood to conference title
KIRKWOOD • With the game and a conference championship on the line, Preston Salazar closed things out in style.
The Kirkwood junior right-hander retired the final 11 batters he faced Wednesday — needing only 32 pitches to do so — to wrap up a solid, complete-game effort on the mound in the Pioneers’ 3-1 win over the Falcons in a showdown of the top two teams in the Suburban XII Conference South Division at Kirkwood.

Schneider saw Niemeyer stand up next to Charles Glenn on the ice that night at Scottrade Center and the youngster appear unfazed.

Summit's Schork takes place in record books after hitting four homers in one game

One of those historic, once-every-10-years kind of days for Summit sophomore catcher Jeremy Schork, who blasted four home runs and collected 10 RBI on April 4 to power a 28-0 victory against Ritenour.

Today seniors Blake Cisneros, Jimmy Schork and Nick Meacham signed letters of intent to play baseball in college. Cisneros signs with Southeast Missouri State, Schork signs with Jefferson College and Meacham becomes a member of the Drury Panthers.
